Neighborhood Clean Up Day

Neighborhood Clean Up Day

Lead Contact: Mary Margaret Wheeler Weber, email mary.wheeler@gmail.com or call 503-240-3344.

Portsmouth & University Park Neighborhoods will hold a Spring Dumpster Day on Saturday, May 16, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm sharp in the Eagles North Portland parking lot at North Lombard and Exeter. Rain or shine. Suggested donation: $15/load.

Please no yard waste, construction debris, commercial waste, kitchen garbage, hazardous waste, biowaste or recyclable materials. Your volunteers reserve the right to refuse materials that appear unsafe, unsanitary or otherwise unacceptable.

Come prepared to unload your materials (bring a friend to help). You will be asked to sign a volunteer waiver. The Goodwill van will be on site for reusable items, and neighbors are invited to take what they want before it goes to Goodwill. Goodwill also accepts e-waste (electronics). Peninsula K-8 PTA will be collecting textiles on site as part of its spring “Clothes for the Cause” fundraiser. They accept clothing, paired shoes, blankets, sheets, curtains, tablecloths and more. Please bring bagged. See comments for more information on what we can and cannot take.

This event is made possible through support from Metro, Portland’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement and most of all, through VOLUNTEERS - your neighbors giving their time. A special thank you to the Eagles for their continued support in hosting community events.

This event helps cut down on illegal dumping in our community and provides a low-cost alternative for disposing of materials at a Metro's transfer station.

We really need more volunteers! If you are interested in helping, email mary.wheeler@gmail.com or call 503-240-3344. There are three shifts available: 9:30-12:00, 12:00-2:00, and 2:00-3:00 (clean up shift). You will be directing traffic, unloading stuff, and meeting lots and lots of neighbors.

Please know that the more volunteers we have, the faster it will go for everyone. If we don't have many volunteers we'll still do it but ask that everyone "volunteer" their patience at the very least. :)

Also note that lots of other neighborhoods will be holding spring clean ups - some already have. Each one will have slightly different requirements. You will have to contact your neighborhood association to learn more, or contact North Portland Neighborhood Services at (503) 823-4524.
